Dr. Swagata Samanta (FIETE, MIEEE) received her Ph.D degree from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP) in 2018. She continued her research as a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), IISc Bangalore and then at James Watt School of Engineering (JWNC), University of Glasgow, UK. Presently, she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at SRM University-AP, Andhra pradesh, India.
Dr. Swagata’s research interests are interdisciplinary and encompass a broad range of topics, including novel on-chip nanophotonic and nanoelectronic devices, integrated optics, neuromorphic circuits, VLSI systems, image/video processing, and artificial intelligence. Her Ph.D work focused on ‘Polymer and silicon waveguide based structures for photonic integrated circuit applications’, which provided her with valuable experience in efficient design methodologies and fabrication techniques for integrated photonic devices such as couplers, resonators, splitters, and photonic crystals. During her Ph.D period, she authored five journals and ten conferences. Dr. Swagata's M.Tech work involved ‘Design and implementation of digital image processing techniques using reconfigurable programming logic’, and she published one conference paper, one book chapter, and one monograph during her one-year tenure. Her postdoctoral work on Neuromorphic and Nanophotonic chips using Artificial Intelligence Systems resulted in one book, three journals, and two conferences. She is an active reviewer of peer-reviewed international conferences and journals journals such as the Journal of Nanophotonics, SPIE; Optical Fiber Technology, Elsevier; Optical Engineering, SPIE; and Applied Sciences, MDPI, among others.
